Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

4 large eggs, room temperature

1/2 cup milk

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom

1/4 teaspoon saffron threads, crushed

1 tablespoon warm water

For the glaze:

1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch (23 cm) cake pan with butter or cooking spray.

In a small bowl, mix the crushed saffron threads with warm water and let it steep for 10-15 minutes.

In a separate large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until it becomes light and fluffy.

Add in the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cardamom.

Add half of the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and beat until combined. Then add in the milk, followed by the remaining dry ingredients and beat until smooth.

Pour the saffron infusion into the batter, and beat until the batter turns yellow and the saffron is evenly distributed.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smooth the surface with a spatula, and bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing it from the pan and placing it on a wire rack to cool completely.

For the glaze, whisk together the confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth.

Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake and serve immediately.
